2nd Annual Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra Blood Donation Camp
A true voice for human rights. This year twenty-five people gave blood and one gave plasma in his name — and every one of them can do it again in eight weeks.
What the day came to
Every one of those donations was somebody who gave up a Saturday morning, rolled up a sleeve, and asked for nothing back. Some had done it many times before. Several were giving for the first time. We are not publishing their names here — they came to donate, not to be listed — but the club knows who they are, and each of them is being thanked properly.
Our thanks to Canadian Blood Services, and to the staff at the donor centre on Wharncliffe Road, who made room for us, kept the morning moving, and looked after our donors with real care from the first appointment to the last. A community can offer to give blood; it takes an organisation like theirs to turn that offer into something a patient actually receives. We are grateful to be one of their Partners for Life teams.

Why the camp carries his name
Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra
A bank official from Amritsar who became one of Punjab’s most determined human rights defenders. In the mid‑1990s he gathered and made public the records of thousands of people who had been picked up, never charged, and never seen again.
He was abducted in September 1995 and never came home. The club holds this camp each September in his memory — a day spent helping to save lives, in the name of a man who gave his own trying to protect them.

Who can donate is decided by Canadian Blood Services, not by us.
Eligibility depends on your health, travel and medical history. Check the current criteria and book at blood.ca or call 1‑888‑2‑DONATE. If you cannot donate, you can still volunteer on the day.
