Posting rules and safety
The PSSC Classifieds are free for everybody in London, Ontario. Ads are checked automatically and go live straight away. Anything that breaks these rules is turned back, or taken down when people report it.
Who can post
- Anybody aged 18 or over with a free account. Your email address is confirmed before the account works.
- One account per person. Club members and volunteers use the account they already have.
- A new account can post as soon as its email address is confirmed. For its first week it can have one live ad at a time, and Vehicles, Rooms & Rentals and Jobs open after that week.
- Up to 3 live ads per account, and no more than three new ads in a day.
What cannot be posted
- Weapons and replicas, ammunition, tasers and pepper spray.
- Drugs, cannabis, prescription medicine, tobacco, vapes and alcohol.
- Adult content or services.
- Counterfeit, stolen or recalled goods.
- Pyramid schemes, “get rich” offers, crypto and forex investments, and loans.
- LMIAs, job offer letters, sponsorships or immigration results for money. Selling them is illegal in Canada, and anyone offering them is very likely running a scam.
- Animals, for now.
- Anything else that is illegal in Ontario.
How an ad must be written
- One item or service per ad, in the right category, with real photos of it.
- Ads are for things and services in London, Ontario.
- No phone numbers, email addresses, links or other apps in the ad. People reach you with the Contact button, and you reply by email.
- No posting the same thing twice. Edit or renew the ad you already have.
- No titles in capital letters.
Jobs and rentals: the Human Rights Code
In Ontario a job ad, and most rental ads, cannot choose people by race, ethnic origin, place of origin, citizenship, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital or family status, disability, or receipt of public assistance. So phrases like “Punjabi only”, “no students”, “girls only” or “no kids” are turned back.
The one exception is a room in a home you live in, where you share the kitchen or bathroom with the tenant. Tick that box when you post, and the ad may say who you would prefer.
Staying safe
- Meet in a busy public place in daylight, and bring someone with you.
- Never pay a deposit, send an e-Transfer or buy gift cards before you have seen the item or the room.
- Be wary of anyone who is far away, in a hurry, or wants to move the conversation to another app.
- For a room, see it in person and ask for a written agreement.
When something is wrong
Open the ad and press Report this ad. Reports are private. When three different people report the same ad, it comes down automatically and the person who posted it is told. An account that has two ads taken down can no longer post.
Your details
Ads show your first name only. Your email address and phone number are never shown. When you message a seller, your message goes to them by email and they see your email address when they reply. Ads end after 30 days unless renewed. See the club’s privacy page.
The club’s part
The Panjabi Sports & Social Club runs the classifieds as a free community service. The club does not check the people who post, the things they offer, or take any part in a sale. Questions: info@pssclub.ca.
